i usually sketch from memory for these portraits, but i prefer to have photos. when i see someone i want to paint, i rarely ask for photos. it feels too tender - even outrageous - to ask. i love these ladies so much. it's all beauty and grace and humor to me - i can't stand it.
i am these ladies. i mean, technically, not yet, but god willing. i look at these women and i think about what a privilege it is to grow old. i know, i know the so, so many ways that it is not a privilege, i know. i do. but still.
